Dooley Direct Acquires CompStar Web DivisionMishawaka. CompStar Technologies, Inc., and Dooley Direct, LLC, jointly announced that the latter firm has acquired the web marketing and search engine promotion business which was previously part of CompStar Technologies. The new firm will be headed by Roger Dooley, formerly Managing Director of CompStar, and will continue to provide services to companies seeking to increase their web business and visibility.
“This move will enable us to focus exclusively on working with our web marketing clients,” notes Dooley. “The Internet, and search engines in particular, are in a constant state of flux. Keeping up with the changes and developing new techniques requires daily research and a sharp focus.” The services offered by Dooley Direct include search engine optimization and marketing, web advertising management, electronic press release optimization, and online community development. The firm both designs new websites and modifies existing sites to boost traffic and results.
Search Engine Marketing. Search engine traffic is critical for any firm seeking business growth. “At one time, only national firms worried much about search engine traffic. Today, even purely local firms are getting customers from the Web,” says Dooley. “The major search engines like Google and Yahoo are investing heavily in local search - they think they can be the ‘yellow pages’ of the 21st century.”
According to Dooley, today’s typical web visibility campaign includes a combination of techniques, including improving the web site for search engine performance, building inbound links from other sites, and using cost-effective “pay per click” search advertisements. Dooley points out, “Getting to the top of the natural search listings Google or Yahoo can take months, but a business can be at the top of the paid search listings in less than a day. Often, the paid listings appear before the free listings and are easier for searchers to click.” [more about Search Engine Marketing]
“The Web is a great direct marketing tool because it’s possible to quantify results,” says Dooley. “A business can know how many people visited their website, how they found the site, whether they took an action like placing an order or requesting a catalog. Detailed tracking ensures that a business is getting a good return on its investment, and points to where changes should be made.”
Web Community Building. One relatively new area of expertise offered by Dooley Direct is web community development. “Many companies find that building an online community is a great way to communicate with current and potential customers. An online community can turn indifferent customers into avid supporters and fans if well done.” Dooley has participated in several of the web’s most successful forums as moderator, administrator, or community architect. Dooley Direct works with companies to assess the prospects for building a community, and, if promising, then design, build, and manage it. Dooley Direct implements blogs, discussion forums, and wikis (different software types) to serve as the basis for web communities, and helps clients promote each community and grow its membership.
CompStar Technologies, a subsidiary of Direct Line Communications of Granger, IN, provides network design, video surveillance, and network management services and products. CompStar pioneered the use of scheduled part-time staffing to meet the information technology (IT) needs of small and medium businesses, and continues to offer such firms the ability to outsource all or a portion of their IT function.
This move will mark the end of Dooley’s association with CompStar, which he co-founded in 1995. The firm merged with Direct Line Communications in 2001, with Dooley remaining in the company as Managing Director and heading up both the IT outsourcing and web-related businesses.
Dooley has more than twenty years of direct marketing experience, having co-founded a catalog mail order firm in the early 1980s. He has been involved in direct marketing on the Internet since the early days of ecommerce. Dooley is an administrator at WebmasterWorld.com, the leading search engine forum, and founded the Community Building forum there. He has spoken at national conferences on topics that include web promotion and building online communities. He holds an engineering degree from Carnegie-Mellon University and an MBA from the University of Tennessee.
